Bungalows are becoming a favoured choice for young families, blended families and remain a popular choice for retirees. Historically bungalows were solely for the elderly. When we were instructed on a bungalow our potential buyer would be planning ahead. They may have potential or already existing mobility issues and need the convenience of single storey accommodation for later years.

In 2023 the value of bungalows increased by 17% vs houses at 13% and research has highlighted that the significant rise of working from home has a direct link to this.

Lateral living and creating that distance between work-spaces and the noise of the family are more easily created in single storey living, possibly easier than in a conventional house. Some companies have closed offices completely and kept their staff working from home and some hybrid working with only a day or two in the office and the rest from home. The need for home offices is now in the majority of buyers requirements and those that previously would have dismissed a bungalow are now considering them and seeing all the benefits a property of this design has to offer.

The space coupled with traditionally larger gardens are perfect for families and bungalows are now being described as “seriously cool”. Covid has changed many things but one of the most important features of a property that was highlighted to be most valuable was access to private outside space. Lockdown taught many about the value of just being outside.

Fast forward a few years and Covid is thankfully becoming a distant memory. The property market despite the challenge of interest rates and has returned to a healthier market .
